Three major/minor preparation programs offered at JMU that I feel are compatible with my characteristics include: School of Media Arts and Design, Art, and Marketing. The career fields I could see myself going into from these programs include: News Broadcasting, Interior Design, and Sales Representative.
SMAD fits my interests because it combines my love to work with people with my creative side. In this department I could go into fields such as Mass Communications, such as news broadcasting or even Graphic Design. Unfortunately I don't see myself doing well in the technological aspect of this major.
My second choice is in Art, which I am currently declared for as a minor. I am excited to see how I do in the class next semester, and a little bit scared that I do not have the talent to be as good as others in the class, but I am determined to work hard. I love working with my hands to create things. A job I could see myself doing in this department would be interior design. I am attracted to this area because I always have been interested in the design of spaces and it seems to be a great, active career. Unfortunately not in great demand.
The final program I could see myself going into would be Marketing in the business major. I am not very interested in statistics and consumer patterns or sitting behind a desk all the time, but I could definitely see myself as a sales representative for a large company, especially one involved in fashion. What worries me about this field is that the economic situation would make finding a job in this area very difficult.
